Pushkar Mela 2024

the Pushkar Mela was something that had been at the top of my “must-visit list” for a long time. Just last year, I finally got the opportunity to be a part of it. I’m not going to share with you the aspects that Google immediately presents to you when you search for the word Pushkar. What I’m going to share are some aspects that have truly influenced me.

While the first part of the Pushkar Festival is dominated by farmers and traders with their camels, the second part is completely centered around people. We move forward from the race and challenges of the animals to the religious ceremonies taking place on the local lake and the music and dance performances happening nearby. During the famous festival, Pushkar comes alive with a vibrant atmosphere.

Take a holy dip in the sacred Pushkar Lake.

Pushkar Lake, deeply intertwined with Hinduism, is revered as one of India’s holiest sites. Legend has it that Lord Brahma created this lake by dropping a lotus flower. During the Kartik Purnima festival, devotees partake in a sacred bath in this revered lake. The most propitious time for this ritual is the two days encompassing the full moon
It is widely believed that Pushkar Lake possesses the healing properties to cure illnesses, and some even assert that it has the capability to absolve one’s sins. As a result, participating in a sacred bath during Kartik Purnima is thought to aid devotees in achieving salvation or moksha. This motivates numerous devotees to visit the Pushkar fair in order to have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the renowned lake.
