Chapchar Kut 2024: According to local beliefs, the Chapchar Kut celebrations are said to have commenced between the years 1450 AD and 1600 AD. This festival takes place when bamboo trees are cut and left to dry, in preparation for their use in jhumming farming by burning them.

The Chapchar Kut festival, a significant celebration in Mizoram, is named after the bamboo cutting and drying process. It is an agricultural festival observed in March before planting season, featuring the famous Cheraw bamboo dance. In addition to this traditional dance, various other dance styles are performed to the rhythm of drums. The festival includes art shows, handicraft exhibitions, flower displays, and other events.

Activities In The Chapchar Kut Festival
The festival is a vibrant celebration where both men and women proudly don their traditional attire, complete with unique headgear and traditional jewellery.
The ceremonies consist of a variety of local folk dances that aim to highlight the primary traditional dance of a specific region. Additionally, martial arts dances are performed using long bamboo staves during the festival.
Among these dances, the bamboo dance stands out as a unique dance of the Mizos, requiring both skill and a sharp mind to perform.
Furthermore, the festival includes the preparation of a grand feast where the local community invites people from neighbouring villages. A welcome dance is performed to warmly greet the guests.
Moreover, the local people set up an exhibition to display their handicrafts and arts, showcasing their talents to the visitors.

By Air: Many people outside the region wish to witness the beautiful Chapchar Kurt festival of Mizoram. So, to reach Mizoram by air you can reach out to the nearest Airport that is in Aizawl which is a domestic airport, and it is connected to major cities like Imphal, Kolkata and Imphal via regular flights
By Train: You can travel by train by boarding a train from Bairabi in the Kolasib District.
By Road: If you prefer to travel by road, you can take the National Highway 54 from Silchar, Assam, which is connected to Mizoram. Additionally, Mizoram State transport buses regularly pass from Aizawl to Guwahati and Silchar to Shillong.
