On the 12th day of Magha (January – February) during the waxing phase of the moon, a significant observance called Bhishma Dwadasi or Bhishma Dvadasi takes place. This day is also referred to as Magh Shukla Dwadasi. According to popular belief, the Pandavas performed the final rituals for Bhishma, the son of King Shantanu and Ganga in the epic Mahabharata, on this auspicious day.

Bhishma Dwadashi, a sacred observance, takes place on the twelfth day of the waxing phase of the moon in the month of Magh. It signifies the conclusion of the Bhishma Panchak Vrata, which commences on Bhishma Ashtami. Devotees who have undertaken the Ekadashi vrata would conclude their fast on Bhishma Dwadashi by conducting a special puja dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Reciting the Vishnu Sahasranama stotram and performing Vishnu puja are the recommended rituals to observe on this auspicious day.

Individuals need to cleanse themselves by taking a bath and observing a fast before offering their worship to Lord Laxminarayana. The worship involves offering various items such as fruits, banana leaves, supari, pan, til, moli, roli, kumkum, and more. Panchamrit, a sacred mixture, is prepared using milk, honey, banana, Ganga jal, tulsi, and sweets. As for the prasad, it is made by combining wheat and sugar and then roasting them together.

After the Laxminarayana puja, the worship of other devi-devas takes place. Charnamrit and Prasad are revered by all after the puja. An individual needs to take a morning bath and worship Lord Vishnu. Additionally, donations and charities should be given to Brahmanas. These actions bring blessings and can result in the blessings of a child, wealth, and more. Following this, it is customary to have a meal with the family and offer prayers to the Lord, seeking his blessings and salvation.
