Vasant Panchami, a festival celebrated annually on the fifth day of Shukla Paksha in the month of Magh, is dedicated to Mother Saraswati. She is revered as the goddess of knowledge, learning, music, and art. Legend has it that Mother Saraswati was born on this auspicious day. She is believed to appear on Vasant Panchami, seated on a white lotus, holding a book, veena, and garland. As a result, special worship is conducted in honour of Mother Saraswati on this day. Additionally, Vasant Panchami marks the beginning of the spring season.
According to the scriptures, Mother Saraswati is worshipped on the auspicious day of Vasant Panchami. It is believed that by worshipping her, Mother Lakshmi and Goddess Kali are also pleased. The Panchang states that the Panchami Tithi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Magh will commence at 02:41 pm on February 13th. It will conclude the following day at 12:09 pm on February 14th. As Udaya Tithi falls on January 14th, this year the festival of Vasant Panchami will be observed on February 14th.
Basant Panchami 2024 Auspicious time for worship
On the occasion of Vasant Panchami on February 14th, the ideal time for performing the puja will be from 7.01 am to 12.35 pm. Therefore, you will have approximately 5 hours and 35 minutes to devote to worship on this auspicious day.
Basant Panchami worship Vidhi
On the occasion of Vasant Panchami, start your day by bathing in the morning and then dress in either yellow or white attire. Following that, commit to worship Saraswati.
Set up the idol or picture of Mother Saraswati at your designated place of worship. Give Mother Saraswati a bath with water from the Ganga. Then, adorn her with yellow garments.
Next, present offerings of yellow flowers, Akshat, white sandalwood or yellow roli, yellow gulal, incense, lamp, fragrance, and more.
Garland Goddess Saraswati with marigold flowers on this special day. Additionally, present yellow-coloured sweets as an offering.
Afterwards, pay homage to Goddess Saraswati by performing Saraswati Vandana and chanting the mantra. If desired
If you want, you may also include the recitation of Saraswati Kavach during the puja.
Finally, make a Havan Kund, prepare the Havan materials and perform the Havan by chanting a rosary of the mantra ‘Om Shri Saraswatyai Namah: Swaha’.
Then at the end, stand up and perform the Aarti of Mother Saraswati.
